Florence Tourist Attractions

Florence has an attractive historic centre, with some interesting architecture, including fine Renaissance palaces and the famous shop-covered bridge, the Ponte Vecchio. But Florence's most popular, most famous and most unique tourist attractions are those on display in the town's museums and churches. From Michelangelo's iconic and kitsch-ified David to the delicate paintings of Botticelli, Florence is home to some of the world's finest art. more....

Hotel KraftHotel Kraft Florence
Admire an unforgettable view of Florence from the hotel’s terrace with hanging garden and swimming pool, located in a quiet residential area close to the city’s historical centre.
Catch sight of Brunelleschi's dome or Giotto's Tower whilst overlooking the city from the rooftop terrace and pool. Walking distance from the main monuments, this hotel offers a good location for exploring the city and strolling beside the Arno River. Restaurant Terrazza Rossini offers dinner in an open-air panoramic setting during the summer months.
The hotel is not far from Santa Maria Novella train station and some of the city’s prestigious streets and sights.

La Piazza di Santa Croce

Settle down on a bench and read a book, or watch passers-by or look at the play of light on the façade of Santa Croce. Go back on the wings of time to the 13th century and find yourself standing in the square listening to the thundering sermons of a brown-robed Franciscan monk. Watch the flag on the pulpit flying indicating the direction of the wind as a primitive sound gauge used in medieval times for their sermons to reach the furthest parts of the city.
Imagine the medieval houses crammed together with the only free space available which was in front of the church. The Franciscan friars of the Begging Order who went round preaching persuaded the poor to people the square. Soon the tanners brought in their workshops and the air smelled terrible but the people bustled around.
Let your mind travel to the medieval ambience when the monks encouraged the people to entertain themselves with feasts, tournaments and games on the Square which would strengthen the ties between the church and the lay man. Now you know why there are no monuments built on the Square. Only a center-line has been drawn to transform the Square into a football ground, a game which is still a favorite today.

Florence is an open-air exhibition of art and culture. It is famous worldwide, the heart of the Renaissance period and the home of the fine arts and literature. Florence has powerful symbols of Italian and European culture in every nook and cranny, to the extent that it is hard to identify this city with just one symbol. It may be the sculpture of David by Michelangelo, or perhaps the romantic Ponte Vecchio, or Giotto’s bell tower, but Florence could also be represented by famous people such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo or Dante Alighieri, to name but a few.
