Sydney Bars & Cocktail Lounges
Lets just say, whatever takes your fancy, you'll be spoilt for
choice. The home of ‘surf'n'turf', the cuisine draws a multitude of
influences both Asian and European. This constant mix of cultures has
perhaps led to the liberated atmosphere Sydney is famous for. The bars
aren't always that macho and thankfully chasing ‘Sheilas' isn't everyone's
main pre-occupation. There are heaps of sophisticated bars and, on top of
that, it is a wonderfully beautiful city to boot. Pick up a copy of ‘City'
and you'll soon find your feet. |
Café Sydney
-
5th
Floor Customs House Alfred Street
- Telephone: 00 612 9251 8683
- Hours: M-S 12am-11pm
The best view of the city, combined with an experimental menu and loads
of unusual cocktails. And when you’ve done gazing across the harbour, you
can retreat to the more secluded areas of the bar to gaze into your lover’s
eyes. A little added quirk: the bar’s situated over the customs house.
Anything to declare? |
Home Bar
- The Promenade Cockle Bay, Sydney
- Telephone: 00 612 9266 0600
- Hours:12pm - late
The
offspring of massive super club Home, Home bar has a fairly relaxed
atmosphere during the day with tables and chairs overlooking Darling Harbor.
Drinks are a little overpriced, but the bar food is spot-on. Things pick up
quite early in the evening with the pre-clubbing crowd and dj’s belt out
tunes from inside. Home bar shuts at 12.00 and reopens inside the Home club.
Entry into the bar does not mean entry into the club; you must join the
notorious queue. One of the world’s most famous clubs, Home has various
rooms, chillout areas, balcony’s and a great VIP lounge (which can be
accessed by mere mortals by charming the bouncer). If you’re in the mood for
a big night, then this is it.

Water Bar
- The Wharf at Woolloomooloo Woolloomooloo
- Sydney, NSW 2011
- Telephone: 00 61 2 9331 9000
- Hours: 4pm-12am (Tu-Sa), 4pm-10pm (Su-M)
‘Bar
of the year’ for countless magazines and given ‘top ten bar in the world’
status by Conde Naste Traveller the Water Bar is a must for anyone who
demands quality. Built in what was once a giant wharf warehouse the interior
is simply stunning. The lighting is dreamy and the furniture not only looks
the part it’s also the sort you never want to leave! Friday’s and Saturday’s
are the busier nights attracting the exceptionally sophisticated, but with
class tunes that don’t intrude, a cocktail list that gets into the hundreds
and some of the finest restaurants around, any night here is special.
Perhaps most surprising of all is that it’s a hotel bar and booking into one
of Blue hotel’s bi-level suites may certainly help with any potential
hangover!
